Introduction

As 2024 draws to a close, December brings not only the chill of winter, but also the busiest shopping season in the world. From the warmth of Thanksgiving to the celebration of Christmas, and then to the expectation of the New Year countdown, the cross-border e-commerce industry has also ushered in the key sales period at the end of the year.

In order to help sellers better grasp this prime time, the following collates the important compliance new policies of major cross-border e-commerce platforms from December to help sellers successfully sprint year-end performance.

01. The EU GPSR regulation came into force on December 13

The EU's General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) will come into force on December 13, with far-reaching implications for Chinese sellers. E-commerce platforms have mandated verification of European information and GPSR labels, and non-compliant products will face the risk of removal.

Amazon sellers need to address non-compliant ASins on the regulatory compliance page as soon as possible to avoid potential risks.

02. The European Union's new radio equipment regulations come into effect on December 28

The revised Radio Equipment Directive (RED) will come into force on 28 December, affecting EU sales of products that transmit or receive radio waves. New requirements include dual-version sales, labeling of charging features, product details page identification, and USB-C port equipment. Amazon will stop selling radio equipment that does not meet the requirements.

03. Update your tax status by December 30

According to IRS regulations, non-U.S. taxpayers need to provide Amazon with a W-8 form to exempt themselves from the tax filing requirement. The form expires after three years and needs to be resubmitted. Failure to update on time will result in suspension of sales rights.

04. Complete COO information by December 31

In accordance with EU-UK Customs trade regulations, Amazon will collect country of origin/country of origin (COO) information for goods in the FBA logistics program. Goods that do not provide COO information within the specified time period will not be able to enter or leave the EU and the UK.

05. Commodity & Food safety category compliance process online in advance

Amazon began implementing an "early compliance" process for its product safety and food safety compliance policies in early December. When creating related listings, sellers need to complete the data review first, that is, review before listing.

06. Update to Amazon's Toy Compliance policy

Amazon's US and Canada sites have added new compliance requirements for children's toys such as catapult toys and magnetic absorbent balls. The seller shall upload relevant compliance information to the Amazon Seller platform as soon as possible.

07. Amazon US and Japan Station compliance requirements update

Amazon's US and Japan sites have updated compliance requirements for categories such as skin whitening products, eye medicine products and smart watches. The seller shall upload the compliance information in a timely manner according to the categories sold.

08. Some Amazon warehouses rejected the goods

Due to high demand during the Christmas shopping season, some Amazon warehouses will suspend accepting new shipments from December 15 to December 31. The seller should try to change the time to create the shipment or change the delivery address.

09. Amazon launches a new round of scanning video verification

In order to ensure the authenticity of goods and compliance with sales practices, Amazon implements Protocol 3 Video verification. Some sellers need to complete the video verification process within 14 days, otherwise the account will face the risk of freezing.

10. Amazon offers FBA coupon fee reduction

Amazon announced a limited-time coupon fee reimbursement program for newly released FBA items. From November 21, 2024 to January 31, 2025, you will be reimbursed $0.6 per coupon redeemed, applicable to U.S. and Canadian stations.

11. TEMU controls CPC to mandate registration of Midai

TEMU platform updated CPC qualification control standards, starting from December, if there is no CPC qualification and Medai information, products will be removed from the US site. The information must include name, address and phone number.

12. TEMU requires adult clothing products to complete GCC certification

According to the regulatory requirements of the United States, all adult clothing products sold to the United States need to complete the GCC certification qualification requirements, which is tentatively scheduled to take effect at the end of December.

13. TEMU requires CE-battery qualification

TEMU strictly implements the EU battery regulations and controls, requiring battery products to complete the CE-battery qualification. Non-compliant products will be removed from the shelves in December.

14. TEMU requires U.S. sellers to change their identities

TEMU sends a notice to U.S. store sellers asking them to resubmit correct identification documents and contact information. Sellers must update within 30 days or face possible restrictions.

15. Aliexpress strictly controls dangerous chemicals in the EU

The AliExpress platform requires all chemicals placed on the EU market to meet CLP regulations. The platform will punish merchants who publish illegal products and information.

With the arrival of the crucial sales period at the end of the year, cross-border e-commerce sellers need to pay close attention to the new regulatory requirements of major platforms to ensure compliance. I wish all sellers excellent results in the year-end sprint and a successful end to 2024!
